About Dr. Segan

A neighbor first, a physician second, forever a public servant.

Doug Segan has spent his career as an emergency room physician — the kind people call at midnight, the kind who explains the hard things clearly, the kind who fights for you when the system won't. After more than three decades practicing medicine in Michigan, he brought that experience home to Long Island, where he now teaches at Hofstra/Northwell's Zucker School of Medicine.

Doug isn't running because he wants a political career. He is running because he believes that his medical background will help him serve our community.

Where Doug Stands

Four priorities.

A focused agenda for District 7 — built around what neighbors actually talk about at the kitchen table, the deli counter, and the Little League sidelines.

Make Nassau more affordable

Everyday life is too expensive! Nassau is one of the most-taxed counties in America. Doug will fight for fair property-tax assessments, push back on wasteful spending, and protect senior STAR and veterans' exemptions — so families can afford to stay.

Increase support for police, firefighters, and all first responders

ER doctors know and value the critical importance of first responders. Police, fire, EMS, and volunteer companies — every Nassau district deserves full funding, not just the ones whose Legislator votes the right way. Doug will fight to make sure capital funding reaches every community. Public safety isn't a political bargaining chip.

Roads, Roads, Roads

All roads must be safe for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. Roads and curbs must meet safety standards. West Broadway traffic. Crumbling intersections. Flooding on Rockaway Turnpike. Doug will build a needs-based capital projects list for District 7 and advocate hard for its funding — working across agencies and party lines. He'll also push the LIRR and MTA to deliver the service we already pay for.

Protect District 7 from overdevelopment

Our infrastructure cannot support overdevelopment. The Five Towns weren't built to absorb the density some developers want. Bigger projects mean worse traffic, slower emergency response, harder evacuation, and real strain on schools and utilities. Doug will fight for careful, measured growth that protects the community character families moved here for.
